Boxford Rovers U11s playing at Nayland - New Players Welcome
 4.Posted:    April 22, 2012 - 08:32 PM - Updated ,    By:    Rob Hughes

Boxford Rovers Youth FC U11s plan to play their home fixtures at Nayland for the 2012-13 season. We are looking to have two teams to enter into the South Suffolk Youth League in what will be a new 9v9 format introduced by the Football Association.

Our A team won the SSYL Division Two last season and will play in the SSYL Division one against the top teams of Suffolk and we also aim to run a second team. We have been invited to a pre-season training session at Ipswich Town Academy and also run a couple of special events each season, last year we had a training session at Ipswich Town's Portman Road and formed a guard of honour on the pitch.

New players for the U11’s can be current school year five or year four.

Our other teams are also looking for players, the age groups range from Minis (Six years old) right up to U18’s.

For further information contact Rob Hughes on 07740-098955 or visit the Boxford Rovers Youth FC website

 Nayland HortSoc News
 7.Posted:    March 11, 2012 - 01:04 PM - Updated ,    By:    Nayland & District HortSoc

For those of you who have not already booked seats for our coach outing to East Ruston Old Vicarage Gardens and Blacksmiths Cottage Nursery & Garden on Wednesday 13th June please be aware we now have only a dozen seats left.  We will be leaving Nayland at 9am, the cost is £23 which includes travel, entry to both venues and morning coffee and biscuits.  If you are interested please get in touch to check availability before returning a booking slip.  Booking slips attached to save you visiting the website. More information and links to the venue’s websites at: w ww.naylandhortsoc.org.uk/Events

Our coming events Include:

Tuesday 20th March: An illustrated talk on ‘The Victorian Garden : the golden age of gardening’ by Terry Illsley. The Victorian period was celebrated for its progress, invention, new ideas and discoveries and improved transport gave rise to use of non-native plants and exotics.  There was a desire for gardens with ostentatious features, following the latest fashions and themes so it should be an interesting talk.  All are welcome, entry free, at the Church Hall 7.30 for 7.45pm.

Saturday 24th March: Our  Spring Flower Show will be held in the Church Hall.  Come and enjoy the displays of spring flowers and relax with refreshments. Cakes will be on sale & raffle.  Visitors 10am, entry free. Exhibits 8.15am-9am.  Schedule attached, but more details and an entry form are available at: w ww.naylandhortsoc.org.uk/SpringShow

Tuesday 17th April:  Our AGM and Fun Quiz Evening will be held in the Church Hall at 7.30pm.  We hope members and others interested in the Society will come along for the fairly brief formalities followed by refreshments and to participate in the fun quiz.

Saturday 26th May: Our annual Morning Market will be held in the Church Hall from 9.30am.  Plants including bedding and vegetables, books and cakes will be on sale, there will be refreshments and a raffle.  This fundraising event will help generate funds to stage our annual Summer Flower Show on 4th August. Show schedules will be distributed in Nayland and Wiston at the end of March and will be available soon on: w ww.naylandhortsoc.org.uk/SummerShow

Over the Diamond Jubilee weekend of 2nd - 5th June an exhibition of 1950s memorabilia and artefacts in St James Church is being planned.  Do come along to take a step back in time.  If you have any items which you would like to add to the display Hazel Gardiner (on 262582) would be delighted to hear from you.

 DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATION IN NAYLAND
10.Posted:    February 08, 2012 - 11:55 AM ,    By:    Community Council

DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATION IN NAYLAND
Sunday 3rd June 2012

As introduced last issue the Community Council Jubilee Committee have begun organising activities to celebrate this very special occasion.  We have not yet reached the stage where we can reveal a definite itinerary for the day as the activities suggested are still developing and being added to but it does promise to be a memorable occasion for all Nayland with Wissington families to be part of and enjoy.

A street party in the High Street to coincide with the nationwide ‘Big Lunch’ is being planned.  There will be entertainment for youngsters, such as Punch and Judy, face painting, a treasure map… the list is growing.  We hope, by popular demand, the ducks will return for a ‘Duck Olympics’ in Fen Street.  The High Street will be adorned with red, white and blue decorations and we hope party-goers will come along wearing something to add to the colourful atmosphere.

At the party our Nayland Firefighters will be presented with their official Jubilee Medals as a mark of thanks, from the Government on behalf of the Queen, for their commitment to public service.

The winners of a children’s competition to design a Nayland with Wissington shield will also be presented with their prizes and all the entries will form a colourful display - details of the competition will be in the next Community Times.

During the afternoon in the Village Hall we will screen the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant - a glorious river jamboree - travelling with one thousand decorated and adorned boats down the River Thames.  The Queen and other members of the royal family will be aboard the Royal Barge as the impressive flotilla passes down the river with bells tolling, music playing, geysers spraying and daytime fireworks.

Mark this weekend in your diaries as in addition to our plans, over the weekend the Horticultural Society will be staging a 1950s exhibition in St James, on Sunday morning there will be a special Jubilee Church Service, and on Monday 4th the Jubilee Church Fete will be held on the Village Hall playing field.  If any other village groups are planning anything do let us know so we can all work together to mark this special event.

If you would like to be involved with helping to organise the celebrations or if you would be willing
to help out in any way on the day we would be very pleased to hear from you,
please contact Jill Badman on 01206 262994 or or Bryan Smith on 01206 262430
