The Royal British Legion exists to promote the welfare of those who are serving or have served in the armed forces of the Crown and their dependants; that is, their spouse, children and perhaps other dependents.
The Nayland and District Branch meets every 3 months or so either in the Church Hall or the Anchor Pub. It is not only open to ex-service men or women but is happy to accept associate members who have never served in the Armed Forces. Some of its meetings are held jointly with the Women's Section of the Royal British Legion.
Its main activity is to look after its members and other ex-service men and women and their dependants and provide them with help and support as necessary. This is the role of the service committee. It also organizes the annual Remembrance Services at Nayland and Wiston Churches and the Annual Poppy Appeal Collections. It also conducts other fund raising events too for funding its local activities. Its Service Committee also has access to the national organization support agencies, such as SSAFA, Residential Homes and the more expensive home equipment aids that might be required by ailing ex-service personnel or their dependants.
